The documentary narrates the personal experience and memories of the displaced refugees and interned people, and how they experienced and felt the Turkish invasion in July 1974. Traumatic experiences of children, adolescents, and adults were imprinted and remain in their memories and souls 50 years later. The 88-minute documentary is a narrative from 18 people who lived in Cyprus before the Turkish invasion in 1974. It recounts life in the village of Achna and the surrounding areas of Kantara and Risokarpaso, focusing on the rich agricultural economy and social life. The villagers lived harmoniously, engaging in local agriculture, sports, and community events. Towns like Famagusta were economically significant, contributing heavily to the Cypriot economy and tourism industry. The narrative shifts to the events of 1974 when the Turkish invasion disrupted Cypriot's life, leading to evacuation and displacement. It captures the suddenness of the invasion, the community’s response, and the harrowing experiences as families were separated, villages destroyed, and lives permanently altered. Stories of bravery, fear, and the struggle for survival during the invasion reflect a strong communal spirit, although fear and confusion were prevalent. The story continues with life's challenges as refugees in the free zones of Cyprus, marked by crowded conditions, limited resources, and the impacts on education and daily routines. The enclaved Greek Cypriots faced significant hardships, restricted movement, and discrimination. The people express the deep cultural and emotional loss of displaced people and the lasting impact of lost homes, traditions, and livelihoods. In the decades that followed, there were attempts at maintaining the community’s identity, language, and traditions, especially through associations that strive to keep memories alive. The narrators highlight the continued hope for freedom and the right to return to their homeland, voicing a collective Cypriot desire for healing from war trauma.
